Since 1996

In 1996, Sityodtong Boston (Sit-Yod-Tong) set up shop in the basement of a law firm. That law firm doesn't exist anymore, but our gym continues to host authentic quality Muay Thai classes 6 days a week.
You don't need to be a fighter to appreciate the ancient art of Muay Thai.
Whatever your goals are, training at SITYODTONG will change your life!

We have classes for experienced and inexperienced students alike. We even have introductory classes for people that know absolutely nothing about the sport!
Everyone is welcome.

Our Muay Thai instructors ("Kru's") all have extensive experience training and competing in Muay Thai. Most of them have made the trip to Thailand to learn from the source!

Our gym consists of two and a half floors of training mats loaded with punching bags, pads, and weights. We have a boxing ring and an MMA cage too! The student lounge has couches.
Muay Thai, also known as Thai Boxing, is a combat sport that allows fighters to utilize most of their body to fight. Muay Thai is sometimes referred to as the "Art of Eight Limbs" because knees and elbows are permitted alongside kicks and fists. Muay Thai is highly effective in hand to hand combat and utilizes all the body's natural weapons. From powerful punches, furious kicks, piercing knee strikes, to crushing elbows and skillful grappling, Muay Thai has it all!

Muay Thai as we know it today formed in the 1930's when rules were introduced to ensure the safety of the boxers. Centuries before the introduction of timed rounds, boxing gloves, and weight classes, Muay Thai was a real combat art employed by the old kingdom of Siam to defeat its foes. The ancient art of Muay Thai, known as Mae Mai Muay Thai, is too dangerous for the boxing ring. Trained in Mae Mai Muay Thai, Siamese warriors were capable of killing their foes with only their arms and legs, and the Royal Thai Army used these fighters to protect Thailand's borders from invaders.
As the old legend goes, when Thai warriors were captured by neighboring Burmese forces and imprisoned, they were given a chance to fight for their lives in hand-to-hand combat. The Thai warriors survived, defeating tens of foes each with only their bare hands. The king of Burma had no choice but to admire these fighters who had bested his own!

Sityodtong means "Student of Yodtong." The name comes from the Sityodtong training camp in Pattaya city, Thailand, which was founded by Master Kru Yodtong Senanan in the year 1960. In the 90s, Mark DellaGrotte, eventual founder of Sityodtong Boston, traveled to Thailand and trained under Master Yodtong. The two became great friends, and Master Yodtong encouraged Kru Mark to return to America and establish a training camp in Boston in the style of an authentic Thai-style gym. Thus, Sityodtong Boston was born!
